Is a students led not-for-profit and non-partisan organization which inspires young people, principally students to adopt to the culture of leadership, good governance and sustainability, to effectively enable them participate in the democratic process and sustainable development of their country and the outside world.
Over the course of years, through schools and community outreach programs, SGD-Uganda has implemented a series of programs, advocacy campaigns and education initiatives on human rights, democracy, environmental issues etc. We carryout our activities through engaging students and members in schools and community outreach programs in essential fields such as awareness of human and civil rights, women and children rights, voter education, election monitoring and reporting, constitutional awareness, peace making and reconciliation campaigns and combating corruption, mobilizing youth groups and youth leaders for solidarity events, working for vulnerable groups, youth political participation, capacity building, writing petitions, conferences, seminars and training workshops etc.

History
In October 2005, Gesa Mike Munabi with a group of other outstanding youth full of vigor, enthusiasm, love and compassion for their fellow youth and country, inspired an idea to expand Students for Global Democracy operations in Uganda to be a basis of empowering young people with knowledge and principles of human rights to enable them effectively participate in the democratic processes of their nation. They urged each other to invest their personal abilities and engage other peers in efforts to save humanity from the devastation of conflicts, abuse of human rights, hunger, disease, poverty and other trauma. |
What is unique about SGD Uganda ?
Whereas there are many players in the area of human rights, all interventions so far have targeted adults leaving out the participation of young people although they are the direct beneficiaries.
Why Students in Democracy efforts ?
According to the National Population Census, youth in Uganda form 64% of the total population. While according to the national youth statute 1993, provided and lead to the formation of youth
